Olbia

December 13, 2011

On the island of Sardinia in the Mediterranean, Olbia is the main spot for holidaymakers. Olbia is a welcoming town and has bars, pubs, and Italian restaurants. Start your sightseeing in the historical centre of the town. The Church of St Paolo, a 17th century building worth a visit. Everywhere are beautiful houses and buildings. The city’s defence wall and well known thermal baths are evidence of the Roman era. There is another church to see called San Simplicio, the oldest and religious landmark in the area. The church is beautiful inside.

Olbia is  a great base to explore the area surrounding the town. Take a trip to the Holy Well of Sa Testa on the road to Golfo Aranci and is one of the most important to Sardinia. It’s said that pilgrims used to rest here. The ruin of the medieval  town of Pedres is worth seeing. If you fancy seeing a lot of historical monuments go to Arzachena. It is only 25km from Olbia and here you can see the Grave of Gigante in Coddhu Ecchiu, the necropolis of Li Muriand and the hill of Lu Monti Incappiddatu. If you fancy a spot of scuba diving go to the Island of Tavalara a short boat trip from Olbia.
After a day sightseeing and perhaps going to the shopping centres in town it’s time to relax and watch the sun go down while you sip a Margherita. In the Piazza Regina Margherita you can watch skaters and street performers on the street.  Visit Olbia.
